Get the Gmail Compose back on Firefox source code xpi oldcompose

I hate the new compose apart from resorting to Thunderbird, there was no viable solution.  Several people suggested oldcompose.com, which offers a Chrome and Firefox extension to give back the classic gmail compose interface.

Apart from bringing back the compose window like the way is should be, the extension also displays email addresses in the TO field in full text.

The link to the Firefox xpi addon page is here.

Inside the xpi archive there are three files:
  • bootstrap.js
  • icon.png
  • install.rdf
The files appear not to have any malicious code or call home urls.

Hate the new Gmail Compose!!!!

Why destroy something, if it works.

This new stupid compose window is geared to idiot hipsters and definately not power users.  The stupid window is smaller and the UI is not intuitive, involving more clicks than ever before.

Google have been stubborn to change, despite  thousands of people complaining on the forums.  The only way to resolve this issue, is to dump gmail as your favorite email client.  If you can tolerate Thunderbird, then the Imap access may be reasonable, otherwise ZOHO MAIL is another solution.

Zoho has the advantage of being linkable with your existing gmail account and it is free.  When sigining up with Zoho, you may see options to pay for hosting, however there is a small option for a FREE user@zoho.com.
Then it is a simple matter of forwarding your existing gmail mail to Zoho.
The other main advantage of Zoho is the absence of ads, however this may not be anything new if your browser is running adblock.

UPDATE: use oldcompose extension.

Do Not USE GMX email to backup gmail!

If you are searching on a way to automatically backup gmail on a third party web email provider, stay away from GMX.com

Not only is there no default setting for https but its "mail collector" only gets mail from gmail's INBOX ONLY.  To add insult, they recommend that email in remote emails accounts should be moved into the inbox so that their mail collector works properly.

Q. Can messages be retrieved from subfolders of my third party account?
A. Mail Collector only retrieves messages from the inbox of your third party account. If necessary, please deactivate any filter rules for sorting messages in those accounts, so that all incoming messages will remain in your third party account's inbox.

To delete your GMX account, follow the setting from here.

How to get writing text back on gmail icons button labels

Ever since google changed the gmail interface, the labels on the buttons have changed from English text to some crappy symbols which have no apparent meaning.  We are talking about the "Archive" "Refresh" "Delete" buttons..

They have made excuses to people like, the position has not changed or the labels have the meaning when you hover over them with the mouse, but should we have to swallow this BS just so illiterates can use their email without feeling violated?

Anyway, google has succumbed to public pressure and made a option for uses to go back the having text on buttons in the gmail online interface.  The switch is easy:

In the gmail interface, click the gears icon.  Then click settings.
In the General tab, you will see "Button Labels", change this to text.
Relax, and enjoy  your new freedom.

[solved] How to run manage multiple ebay / gmail accounts on firefox

If you want to log into multiple ebay accounts on firefox for shill bidding / selling etc,  it is simple.

Just create multiple profiles, the example below is for Linux

Copy these instructions before going any further.

Close firefox

In the command line type "firefox -P"

Click "add profile" and call it "default2", don't overwrite your existing profile or your bookmarks will be lost.  Create as many profiles as you need!

Close off the profile manager

Now you can create a shortcut for you new profile
"firefox -no-remote -P default2"

So your original firefox shortcut will open the "default" firefox profile and your new shortcut will open the profile called "default2", notice that profile default2 has no bookmarks etc.

You can now change the appearance / settings of the profile default2 to match whatever.  I made mine look like a different colour.

Works for multiple gmail accounts, twitter, facebook the list goes on and on.  It will never work for accounts that rely on IP addresses like file download sites i.e oron or rapidshare.
